ANNOUNCEMENT: Latest on the Blast situation

In what appears to be good news, at the meeting on Monday it was decided that Blast 1386 will not be closed down. The radio station will merge with it's now-sister station Tube Radio in Ealing, West London. The merged station will retain the "Blast" name. Programming will come from both Reading and Ealing campuses.

The next step is a thorough review of the programmes and schedule. With two stations, and therefore two schedules, merging I think it is inevitable that some shows will go. As both stations are student radio stations, and are there to serve students, it is my expectation that some or all non-student presenters may have to go, including me. I would fully understand the reasons if such a decision was made, but I also believe that having some non-student presenters at the station bringing in skills from outside can be advantageous to the radio station.

In the meantime, Grooveline will continue on Blast 1386, which is now under new management as agreed at Monday's meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Situation at Blast 1386

Without going into details, Blast 1386 is at the moment in a precarious position. Bob Goertz, the station manager, took voluntary redundancy and left last Friday. Since yesterday, the station has been kept on-the-air by the Student's Union at Thames Valley University in Reading.

In the long term, the university have called into question whether Blast 1386 has a future or not. If it is decided that the station *will* stay on the air, it is still almost guaranteed that a large number of things will change.

As far as I am aware, Grooveline and all other shows will continue for the foreseeable future. The Students Union are meeting with university bosses on Monday 20 February. Hopefully by then the long-term situation will be clearer.

I want to take the opportunity to whole-heartedly commend the Student's Union at TVU in Reading for taking the station into their own hands and keeping the wheels turning at this difficult time.
