ANNOUNCEMENT: Latest on the Blast situation

In what appears to be good news, at the meeting on Monday it was decided that Blast 1386 will not be closed down. The radio station will merge with it's now-sister station Tube Radio in Ealing, West London. The merged station will retain the "Blast" name. Programming will come from both Reading and Ealing campuses.

The next step is a thorough review of the programmes and schedule. With two stations, and therefore two schedules, merging I think it is inevitable that some shows will go. As both stations are student radio stations, and are there to serve students, it is my expectation that some or all non-student presenters may have to go, including me. I would fully understand the reasons if such a decision was made, but I also believe that having some non-student presenters at the station bringing in skills from outside can be advantageous to the radio station.

In the meantime, Grooveline will continue on Blast 1386, which is now under new management as agreed at Monday's meeting.
