Breakfast

Just a quick announcement to say that I'll now also be heard semi-regularly on the Breakfast show with Jen James. The first show will be this coming Monday, and possibly/probably Tuesday and Wednesday too. Should be good, so if you can - tune in. You can also see how dreadful we look at 8am on the webcam.

The show is broadcasting Monday to Friday 8am til 10am on www.blast1386.com, 1386 MW in Reading and on Patientline at the RBH.

PREVIEW: Show 3, Blast 1386, 4 Oct 04 12am

Coming up in this week's Grooveline:

Grooveline on Blast 1386 website

The details for the show, including my uninteresting bio, are up on the Blast 1386 website now in preparation for the show's launch this Sunday night. The main advantage of technically having the first show of the week on the station (12am Monday morning) is that when you click the "Schedules" button on the website, Grooveline is the first show that appears on the screen!

Also on my profile is the email address for the show, which is groovelineonblast@gmail.com

Soul Identity

I will be filling in for Dave Borrow on Saturday 25th September 2004 from 1pm till 4pm UK time. This is the show known as Soul Identity, and is pretty much the same as Grooveline except there is no house or garage. So expect three hours of soul, funk and R'n'B from the 70's through to today. Being a live show, I'll also be throwing open the phones for the first time and welcoming your calls. The studio line is 0118 967 5090 from the UK, +44 118 967 5090 from outside the UK.

PREVIEW: Show 1, Blast 1386, 20 Sep 04 12am

See, I can do these previews simply because the show is....its.....erm.....precorded. *gasp* Shock, horror I know. Unfortunately it's not able to do the show live at the time it is broadcast due to access to the studio being restricted. It's good in the way that if something goes seriously wrong, I can do it again! The first show has been recorded and I can say that it was all done in one take!

In this weeks show:

  • Music from the Sunburst Band, Omar, Whispers, Ramsey Lewis, Incognito, Quincy Jones, Pariss Clemons, Warren G, Michael Jackson and many more
  • A particularly rare track from the latest Earth Wind and Fire offering "The Promise". Rare in that it was only available on the Japanese release.
  • News on how Alicia Keys is causing problems for a particular man in Atlanta
  • The weeks R'n'B and dance charts
  • and much more!

I don't have a profile on the website yet, nor is Grooveline on the schedule up there... but I've been assured it will be soon and that the show will defintely go out on Sunday night!

Playlist will be up on the site around 24 hours after the show is broadcast. Hope you enjoy.

Introduction

This may well be a pointless exercise, but I thought it might be a good idea to have a website to support this new show. Possibly the most useful thing about it will be the playlists, as I know how much it annoys me when I hear a superb tune on the radio and have no idea what it is called, or where to find it!

So, this is Grooveline - a concept born in 1997 in Saltcoats, Scotland. The show first broadcast on HBSA in Irvine between 1997 and 2001. Then, in 2001 and 2002 Grooveline came to Kic FM in Walsall and Wolverhampton, England. In 2003, the show was broadcast on GK Radio in Staffordshire, England. And now here we are in Reading, England on Blast 1386. I've been looking forward to being a part of this excellent radio station - I've been aware of what they've done since they started in 2002. They have a great manager in Bob Goertz, and in Blast he has created something unique to the British radio scene.

So, what can you expect to hear on Grooveline? Quality music with feeling, in the way of soul, funk, acid jazz and smooth jazz, respectable R'n'B, soulful house and US garage. Some tracks you'll know, some you will never heard of before. As time goes on I might add some more features to the show, but in the end it's all about the music. Nothing else.

This website will have previews of the shows, playlists and any random news, charts, features and comments that I think will fit well here.

If you like the show, the music, the website.. please get in touch! To the first show...
